Religion |
Religion is very important in the lives of the people of Uganda. About 60% of Ugandans are Christians both Protestant and Roman Catholic and 25% are Muslims, Hindus and Sikhs. Other tribal religions, make up the remaining 15%. Many Asians had to flee the country during Idi Amin's reign of terror but some are now returning and the Hindu and Sikhs temples are being returned to the religious communities. Scouting in Uganda is an open Association like Scouting in the United Kingdom. Many different faiths come together which can be an important way of learning to respect other religions and understanding the similarities rather than the differences. Programme ideas1. Your Unit could do a survey of religious buildings in your immediate area. Perhaps you could visit one of the buildings and talk to the religious leaders. This could count towards the values section of the Venture Scout Award. 2. Your Unit could carry out a survey of the religions represented in the Unit or in your class at school or college or at work. |
