Each year the
Gilwell Reunion of Wood Badge holders and others visit Gilwell to
meet and also to learn of new developments and opportunities in Scouting.
The Reunion often attracts guests and members from overseas.
A galaxy of yellow
balloons were seen ascending from Gilwell Park on Saturday 6 September
during the Annual Gilwell Reunion. The 79th Gilwell Reunion was
on the theme of Commonwealth Capers top mark the Queen's Jubilee.
Once again, the UK-Uganda Network was well represented in the Commonwealth
Marquee, the main feature was the launch of Uganda 2003. Marvin Takel
and his team put on various displays to highlight opportunities and
activities for the event. To promote support of the Network, customers
were invited to have a balloon filled with helium and participate
in a contest for the furthest sent with a return tag by the 30 September
2002. The result will be announced at our meeting in October. We
were pleased to welcome for the day Michael and Godfrey being hosted
by Eric and Marion and they were more than delighted to have the pleasure
of being introduced and, indeed, photographed with our Chief Scout.
We are grateful for the new UK-Uganda Network banner which we were
able to erect outside the entrance to the marquee so we could easily
be found by our many friends and supporters.
