Iganga District

2000 Reports from Iganga | Project Photographs
Iganga District is situated to the East of Kampala approximately 2.5 hours by car. It is on the main route from Kampala to Kenya and therefore has a busy main road used by lorries and tankers. It is well served with public transport from the capital and many UK Scouts have visited the area. As a result it is a thriving town and an interesting local market.

Father James Ngobi, International Commisisoner (deceasesd), was at one of the local Roman Catholic Churchs and for many years was a considerable inspiration to local Scouting.

Amongst the projects in Iganga have been the Surrey Books for All Project, Computer Training and pupils at the Iganga Boys Primary Boarding School visited Sherwood 98 in Nottinghamshire. The first Project, Books for All, is regarded by many as the inspiration behind transer of resources under Uganda 2000. The Unit of 11 led by Mark Purkiss, Cub Scout Leader in Farnham, will refurbish two class rooms at Iganga Town Council School. Mark has a great deal of experience in Uganda and feels very much at home there.
